Numerology Basics
The general goal of numerology is to turn any name or word into a number, and then find tendencies that number suggests.
It is therefore necessary to have a scheme to be used by the conversion of letters to numbers.
Most systems have a specific number which each letter of the alphabet is turned into, such as A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc. These resulting numbers are then added together to give one big number. In turn, the digits in this one big number are added, until you are left with just one digit of 1 through 9.
The Standard Numerology Scheme
For years numerologists have used the following chart to convert names and other words to numbers.

Using the standard chart the word CAT would be 3 + 1 + 2 = 6. The standard numerological score for CAT is 6.
Using the standard chart the name LARRY would be 3 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 7 = 29. You would then take 29 and add 2 + 9 = 11. You would then take 11 and add 1 + 1 = 2. The standard numerological score for LARRY is 2.
The Modern Numerology Scheme
While the Standard Numerology scheme is heavily used by Numerologists, it is fairly arbitrary.
Outside of numerology the letter value pairs used by the standard scheme are meaningless.
However, in recent years a modern letter to number conversion scheme has arisen that is used by millions of people on a regular basis.
This scheme is of course on all cell phones to be used for texting, and is ingrained on our collective psyche.
Anything which is used and believed in by so many people has power.

Using the modern chart the word CAT would be 2 + 2 + 8 = 12. You would then take 12 and add 1 + 2 = 3. The modern numerological score for CAT is 3.
Using the modern chart the name LARRY would be 5 + 2 + 7 + 7 + 9 = 30. You would then take 30 and add 3 + 0 = 3. The modern numerological score for LARRY is 3.
